🌊 Wave of Letters for Freedom: Public Appeal Campaign to the Mazhilis of Kazakhstan

We are launching the campaign “Wave of Letters for Freedom,” an initiative encouraging people to send open appeals to the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan at majilis@parlam.kz.

The goal of this campaign is to express opposition to the proposed amendments introducing a “ban on the propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations,” which lawmakers seek to include in the draft law on archival affairs. These provisions have no connection to archival legislation and create a dangerous precedent for censorship, restrictions on freedom of expression, and state interference in private life.

Some deputies have stated in the media that work on these amendments began after receiving “dozens of letters”.

It is time to show the real picture — let us respond not with dozens, but with hundreds and thousands of appeals in support of freedom, dignity, and respect for every person.

📬 How to participate

Send a personal appeal to the official email of the Mazhilis: majilis@parlam.kz or submit it through the eOtinish platform.

Anyone can participate — regardless of citizenship, status, or place of residence.

The form of the appeal is free. You may write your own text or use the example below.

✉️ Sample letter

Dear Deputies of the Mazhilis,

I respectfully request that the provisions introducing a so-called “ban on the propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations” be removed from the draft law on archival affairs.

These provisions are unrelated to archival legislation and contradict the principles of freedom of expression, equality, and respect for human rights, as guaranteed by the Constitution and the international obligations of Kazakhstan.
